Panthers Get 10th Win of Season in Shutout of Patriots
Williamsburg, KY - The Pellissippi State Panthers earned their tenth victory of the year in a 1-0 shutout of the University of The Cumberland Patriots on their home turf. The shutout victory is the sixth of the year for the Panthers, tied for sixth best in Division 2 NJCAA. Felipe Coehlo scored the lone goal for the Panthers on the night, his 8th of the season; good for second most on the team. "Tonight was a positive experience for the lads. I was proud of the performance and how they stepped up" Head Coach Josh Scott said of his team Friday night. "At this point of the season, we have some tired legs and tired minds but the grit from the team was great". After suffering a loss on Tuesday night that fell out of their grasp, the Panthers needed to be headstrong and mentally tough to go back out and get the victory against an NAIA foe in the Patriots.
Scott continued "We played on a big field tonight and we had to adjust our style a little, with this said I was pleased with the adjustment and we showed a lot of unity tonight. Overall, I'm delighted for the program to hit 10 wins on the season, only to have lost 3 games from 17 is quite the achievement and we are enjoying ourselves".
The Panthers return home for their final home match of the season on Monday the 30th against Johnson University. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Karns High School.
