Pellissippi State Soccer Teams go 2-0 with combined 11-0 Scores on Tuesday
Knoxville, TN - Domination is the only proper word to describe the Panthers on Tuesday. Both the Men and Women's soccer teams were in action at home and both were at the top of their games. The Lady Panthers defeated Lindsey Wilson's DT 5-0 thanks to a hat trick by Lauren Lemmo, and The Panthers defeated Bryan College's DT 6-0, with Cristian Bonilla and Ruben Cardoza each getting two goals in the match.
Up first was the Lady Panthers, coming off of a historic 1-0 victory against #15 Motlow State last week, the ladies needed to remain focused and keep their foot on the peddle as the season is coming to a close. It took a little while for them to get warmed up, but once the girls got going they didn't let up. Lauren Lemmo started the scoring for Pellissippi State on the day with a terrific goal in the 25th minute. She would go on to score two more times as well, in the 55th and 63rd minutes. Isabella Altorfer got in on the action with a goal of her own in the 44th minute, adding to the lead Lemmo started. In the 79th minute, The Panthers were awarded a penalty kick and Oxamara Alonso had the honors and knocked in her first goal of the year with roars of cheers coming from the bench and the crowd, completing the scoring for the ladies and securing the victory to improve to 7-6 overall.
"Slow start from the girls today, but we found solutions, and we were able to capitalize on some chances and set pieces." Coach Diaz said. "We got to see a lot of different options tonight and players took advantage of their opportunities. We look forward to cleaning things up and getting back to work for Saturday's match-up."
Next were the Men, and they wouldn't let the domination of the girls intimidate them, as they wanted to jump in on the domination as well.
Cristian Bonilla would have the first goal for the Panthers in their matchup against Bryan College, a rematch of their previous game last week that was played in Dayton, TN. Bonilla scored in the 13th minute, with help from Ismael Palacios on the assist. Cristian also scored in the 74th minute for his second goal of the match. Felipe Coehlo and Ruben Cardoza would score right before halftime, in the 43rd and 44th minutes respectively, making the score 3-0 at the half. Cardoza scored to end the half, and would also open the second half with his second goal, knocking it in in the 52nd minute. As the clock was winding down in the last ten seconds of the match, Jacob Eubanks decided to attack and notch his name on the list of scorers for the Panthers on the day with a goal in the 90th minute to finish off the match and make the score 6-0.
"I was pleased with the result, and especially our first-half performance. We played some really nice soccer and I was proud of the lads for their effort" Coach Scott reported. "Playing 4-year schools gives us the opportunity to showcase our players, and Bryan College is a program with an impressive history and lots of soccer traditions and we really appreciate that relationship. We are in the final stretch of the season, and our lads have represented the program tremendously, we will look to finish strong and keep improving, especially because there were some things I saw in the second half I wasn't too happy with, either way, we are a family and we keep growing together"
The Lady Panthers are scheduled to play again Saturday evening at Karns High School against Polk State, a team traveling from South Florida for a duo of games in the state. The Eagles currently have a 6-3 record with an impressive 4-1 record on the road. The match is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and will also be Sophomore night for the ladies, where we will honor all of our departing Panthers.
The Men are looking to add a game for Saturday as well, so keep your eyes on our social media accounts and website for updates on the schedule.
