Panthers Tie Nationally Ranked Georgia Military College After 90-Minute Bout
Knoxville, TN - Tied at the half at zero, The Pellissippi State Panthers were bound and determined to come out in the second half with renewed purpose. Ben Schulz took it upon himself to get the Panthers on the board first in the 62nd minute with a fantastic goal. The Panthers would hold on to the lead until the 79th minute when GMC would get on the board from a corner kick. Neither team could pull away after that, leading to the 1-1 tie. Coach Scott vocalized his thoughts on the game: " We will take the tie, but we are going away kicking ourselves after we weren't able to put away more of the many scoring opportunities we had, especially in the first half " Scott said. "This was a game where we executed what we wanted to do tactically and with our game plan however we just didn't have the end product which we needed to put them away. The effort and work rate tonight were great, we played well, and the lads deserved more, but we had a miscommunication on a corner that cost us".
Tying a Nationally ranked team in the first season in program history is no feat to shy away from. The Panthers didn't back down from the challenge and will use this as an opportunity to get better and prepare for the future. "As we build this program, we will take moments like tonight and gage where we're at and what we need to do to get to where we want to be, and ultimately, we want to be amongst the best but it takes time - overall, I'm proud of my players and this performance "
The Panthers play next at Bryan College on Tuesday the 10th at 7:00 PM.
