Men's Soccer Receives National Recognition After Winning Region 7/17 Championship
Milledgeville, GA - Pellissippi State Men's Soccer received votes in the final NJCAA men's soccer rankings of the 2024 season after finishing the regular season with only one loss, and claiming the region 7/17 championship on Saturday against Georgia Military College.
The GMC Bulldogs had won the region championship nine years in a row before the Panthers came roaring to town last weekend, intent on taking the title home to Knoxville. The match was hotly contested from the beginning, with the Panthers knocking in the first goal in the 39th minute thanks to Alejandro Mina. GMC answered back in the 57th minute with a goal of their own. The match remained 1-1 until Dillon Sims scored the go-ahead goal in the 75th minute. Alejandro Mina, with his second goal of the night, scored in the 80th minute to add some insurance to the Panthers' lead. As the seconds ticked down, the players and coaches alike felt the weight of the moment and started to cheer on their mates and encourage them to finish the match strongly.
The Panthers won the match 3-1 and took home the region title in their first season of eligibility. History was made in Georgia, but the job is not finished. The men will host the Region 10 champion Cape Fear Sea Devils on Saturday, November 2nd at 6:00 PM at Knoxville Catholic High School for a spot in the NJCAA National Tournament.
Fans are encouraged to show up early and be loud to cheer on our team as they make more history!
