Pellissippi State Women’s Volleyball Wins Historic First Match in 5-set Thriller
KNOXVILLE, TN - It was a scene to behold at the Student Rec Center Tuesday night as The Panthers took on the Cougars of Cleveland State in Pellissippi State's first regular season volleyball match in its short history. A crowd of over 400 spectators filled the seats, including players from both the Men's and Women's Soccer teams who proved to be the energizers for the night. The men's soccer team filled the air with "Vamos Pelli" chants and cheers throughout the night.
The Panthers would take the inaugural set 25-23, before surrendering the next two sets to the Cougars 21-25 and 25-27. The rally was on in the fourth set as the girls had their backs up against the wall. Having to win the set to continue the match, the Panthers fought hard and held Cleveland State to their lowest total of the night in the four 25-point sets, 25-19. The final set came down to the wire and went back and forth between the teams. Cleveland State took an early 3-0 lead, but Pellissippi didn't fret. They would go on to win the fifth set 18-16, winning the final two points to cap off the rally and win the inaugural match in Pellssippi State Volleyball history.
Pellissippi State Volleyball is next in action on Tuesday, September 12th at 6:30 PM against Walters State Community College in Morristown.
